Personal Profile:
Prof Nwaubani is a Resident Faculty and Head of the Civil Engineering Department at African University of Science and Technology, Abuja. Professor Nwaubani holds a PhD in Civil Engineering, awarded by the University of Leeds in 1990; MSc Degree in Civil Engineering, awarded in 1981 by the Technical University of Civil Engineering, in Bucharest, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Learning and Teaching in Higher Education). He is a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and a Fellow (FICE), of the prestigious UK Institution of Civil Engineers.
Professor Nwaubani is currently a Visiting Honorary Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at the School of Engineering, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He is a Nationally Rated Researcher in the Engineering category which is a recognition accorded by the South African National Research Funding Council (NRF), for quality and significant research outputs. In recognition of his expertise in Concrete Technology and Materials research. He was appointment to the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) Research Panel, as a Category A Consultant, which signifies “a top researcher/practitioner whose expertise is internationally recognized and who provides advice at a level of specialization recognized as that of an expert …….”
Prof Nwaubani has had a long period of scholarship and experience in research, academic programme leadership and teaching development in Nigeria, South Africa, the UK and other oversea institutions. During this period, he made substantial contributions to the training of young Civil Engineers, especially in the teaching of structural design, structural analysis, cement-based construction materials. He has expert knowledge of the use, properties, durability and micro-structural development of construction materials. He has a passion for sustainability issues in construction and production of materials capable of achieving resource efficiency in a way that supports the emerging concept of a Circular Economy. His work in this area of research has been widely published in reputable journals and in several international conference proceedings. Prof Nwaubani has made a substantial impact on the Engineering community and particularly in the training and supervision of hundreds of Civil Engineering graduates. He has supervised over19 PhD, PrD and MPhil graduates and over 150 MSc research students to completion and most of these have gone into academia and Engineering practice. He has published over 100 articles, co-authored a book on Construction Materials and contributed chapters to many others. These are widely published in various national and international peer-reviewed outlets and reveal clear evidence of cross-boundary, cross-discipline and inter-national research activities and collaborations.
